A truly memorable day for the Broch!
Last week, we officially named our new pilot boat, welcoming GLOVER to the fleet as we said a fond farewell to PILORAS.
The name honours Thomas Blake Glover, born right here in Fraserburgh and a pioneering figure in Japan’s industrialisation. Often known as the “Scottish Samurai,” his story is a powerful reminder that global impact can begin anywhere.
The naming ceremony was led by Judy Whyte, Provost of Aberdeenshire, alongside the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, The Lady Saltoun, His Excellency Mr Katsutoshi Takeda, Consul General of Japan in Edinburgh and Mr Taro Hattori, President of Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems Europe, whose presence beautifully reflected the Scotland–Japan connection at the heart of Glover’s legacy.
The event was supported by Ewan Scott, our Assistant Harbour Master; Councillor Doreen Mair, our Vice Convener; and Pamela Neri, our Harbour Development Manager, whilst a special thank you goes to the Fraserburgh Sea Cadets & Royal Marines Cadets, who formed a guard of honour for the occasion, and to Ocean Winds for sponsoring the event.
The Turriff & District Pipe Band looked magnificent as they led the procession up to the Glover Garden, where The Lady Saltoun formally opened The Glover Festival.
