Fraserburgh Harbour has been named one of just four projects which are to benefit from funding this year, via the Scottish Government Just Transition Fund’s focus on offshore wind infrastructure and supply chain development.
Underlining the importance of the port as a dynamic enabler for economic activity and jobs in Fraserburgh and the wider region, the £2.4million awarded will enable Ground Investigation works which are set to commence later this year.
Pamela Neri, Harbour Development Manager explains the importance of this activity:
“This funding is critical in that it will support the Ground Investigation works which underpin the technical design of our entire development Masterplan, whilst also enabling the first capital works – the extension of the Harbour’s North Breakwater.
“The overarching purpose of this project is socio-economic. The Harbour is a strategic asset in Scotland’s energy transition, and in a region with a narrow employment base , and high levels of deprivation, we have a key role to play in delivering a Just Transition for the North-east and Moray.
“Our strategic location means we are ideally placed to support offshore wind operations and maintenance (O&M) for ScotWind and INTOG projects. And whilst the focus of this project is to support the energy transition, the planned infrastructure will benefit our diverse customer base, particularly our fishing industry, which remains central to Fraserburgh, as well as a broader maritime and industrial market.
